In the few times I’ve seen him for Strasbourg this season in the Conference League I’ve been pretty flabbergasted. It was this instantaneous feeling he was the most technical and highest IQ player on the pitch. It’s like time slows down when he has the ball, there are so many strings to his bow.

Great reply, nice info. I believe he's a young dad now so that will certainly have matured him more. I really enjoyed what little I saw of him at Brighton (as did a few others) and would've loved to see him stick around a bit longer. I wish him well and really hope he goes on to bigger things.

When Barco went on loan to Sevilla from Brighton, Pimenta made the same mistake and fielded him at LB, like it was stamped on his birth certificate. When Rosenoir took him on at Strasbourg, it took him about 2 seconds to reimagine him in LM, which always seemed a bit obvious to me at the time. If rumours are correct, I think Rosenoir is eyeing him up for a Chelsea move.

With Kadioglu at LB and Mitoma on LW, I'll always be wondering what Barco in LM instead of (eg) Ayari would've looked like.

Aside from other issues, was there an element of tension between Barco, his entourage and hosting clubs?

Barco started as a left back at Boca Juniors because some madman decided that he was so good technically and dictating the play that if he had the whole pitch ahead of him his creative traits would shine much more

But very soon after getting getting promoted to the first team the manager decided to play him at LM and LW with a free role to do whatever he pleases. His tackling is really really good but I agree that is because he lacks the physicality to defend like a proper defender, and being trained as a LB forced him to make up for it with tackles

Barco seems much more professional now but there is a history tension between him and his clubs. He made his debut during COVID at the age of 16 for Boca because the first team was playing the Libertadores. The whole reserve team were promoted for just 2 matches, and he looked like a future star

His agent and Riquelme were at odds with each other, and coupled with a few immature decisions on the pitch (no-look passed, provocations, and a childish red card) caused him to never be called up to the senior team. He had no minutes in 2022 and he was about to be sold to Zaragoza in the 2nd division of Spain for 3M Euros but the deal got called off because Barco wanted to stay and win his place in the squad

In 2023, in the very first day at the job, the new manager decided to go watch the reserve team play to make a decision about Barco. He got called up to the senior team and instantly made a huge impact. He seems much more mature now both on and off the pitch, so I think those issues are mostly solved
